Clinton Men's Baseball Preview

Wednesday, April 02, 2008

CCC Men’s Baseball Coach Tom Neale is excited about the upcoming season for the Clinton Cougars. “Our goal is to win this year. We have to think about winning games now instead of being competitive.” said Coach Neale.

Clinton will start the season with 17 players including 9 players with pitching experience. Neale is pleased to have players that have pitched in high school or at the American Legion level.

Pitchers include Matt Lamora, Nick Furnia, Matt LaVarnway, Andrew Staley, Nick Popp, Phil McGee, Mat Turner, Ryan Bartels and Dan Elder.

Neale said, “If we have a number one it will probably be Lamora. He has a strong arm. But we also have some other pitchers who have been doing well in practice, including Furnia and McGee.”

Clinton’s infield will include Ian Brown at first base, Justin Mahan at second, Tory Bouyea at shortstop and Furnia at third. Cory McCleary will be behind the plate.

Other players who may see time in the infield include Stanley, Lamora and LaVarnway.

The outfielders include Aaron Goldfarb, Adam Tobrocke and Nicholas Popp, McGee, Stanley, Lamora and Kevin Jessey and Richard Moreno will also be manning the outfield duties. Coach Neale said, “We have depth in the outfield as well.” Popp is also the fastest player on the team.

Clinton is hoping for the weather to break soon as they are anxious to get outside and play ball. The first home is scheduled Thursday, April 17th against Jefferson CC.
