CCC Men finish season with a win
Monday, February 22, 2010
PLATTSBURGH — Clinton Community College men's basketball team finished the season on a positive note by winning 72-69 win over Columbia-Greene Community College. Anthony Hodge had 32 points and six rebounds for the Cougars. Justin Vice contributed 14 points, while Matt Hughey had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Dexter Jones had eight assists. Hodge and Vice were honored before the game as it was their last game for CCC. "They are our second-year players and both played very well, especially Hodge," Daugherty said. "He shot the ball very well in the game." "It was a nice way to end the season after a disappointing game yesterday," said Clinton C.C. head coach Kevin Daugherty. "We avenged a seven-point loss to them last month. "It was a great team effort and an exciting game. I was proud of the team's effort." Hughey hit a free throw and Vice two from the line to give the Cougars a 70-66 lead. CGCC player Tillerson made a three-pointer to bring Columbia-Greene to within 70-69 with eight seconds left. "We called a timeout and set up our pressure break," said Daugherty. "We wanted Vice to have the ball in his hands because he is our best foul shooter. It worked out perfectly as he got the ball on the sidelines and was fouled. "He hit both shots from the line and Tillerson then missed a long three-pointer as time ran out." "We were down by as many as 11 points in the first half and led by as many as six in the second half," Daugherty said. "We also had only five turnovers in the game and did a good job taking care of the basketball." — Clinton 72, Columbia-Greene 69 Columbia-Greene C.C.
