PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College women’s soccer team hadn’t played since Sept. 4, and coach Donna Dixon was hoping for a more comfortable win Thursday night.

Dixon got what she was looking for.

The Cougars scored four goals in each half and rolled to an 8-1 win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College at the Plattsburgh State Field House Soccer Complex.

Tiarra Spencer led the way with three goals and an assist, while Katrina Garrand added a goal and three assists and Raquel Fowler, a goal and two assists.

“We were waiting for a game like this where we would break out offensively,” said Dixon. “We’ve been having some good scoring opportunities but not great ones.

“(Thursday), we had a lot of great combination of passes. We scored two of the goals off crosses and nice headers. Tiarra, Raquel and Katrina worked very well together, and we showed a lot of speed up front.”

Spencer scored two goals, while Ashley Davidson and Brianna Mashtare added one each in the first half to stake the Cougars (2-3) to a 4-0 lead.

Kenna Agoney and Fowler tallied in the second half to make it 6-0 before the visitors got on the board on Melissa Nunez’s goal.

Garrand and Spencer then closed the scoring later on.

“It was a great team effort,” said Dixon. “Hopefully, it will continue.

“Kenna also played very well, while Charisse Abellard led us on defense. They didn’t put a lot of pressure on us.”

Kaila McGowan (0) and Emily Schultz (4) combined for four saves in the Clinton nets.

The Cougars hit the road for two games this weekend, against Jamestown C.C. on Saturday and Corning C.C. on Sunday.
