CORNING — The Cougars (3-3) couldn’t hold an early 2-0 lead and fell to the Jaguars on Blake Barker’s second goal of the game.

Jordan Knight tallied goals at 6:50 and 16:30 of the first half to give Clinton a 2-0 advantage. Keon Jahanbakhsh assisted on the first goal and Kaleb Snide on the second.

Barker cut Jamestown’s deficit in half at 30:23 of the first and the Jaguars were then recipients of an own goal 19 seconds later that deflected off a Clinton defender and into the net.

It remained 2-all until Barker’s game-winning goal with 11:17 gone in the second half.

“He (Barker) beat a defender one-on-one and then sent a shot from an angle from about 20 yards out into the side netting before our sweeper was able to get to him,” said Clinton coach Zac Eppler. “Our goalie didn’t have much of a chance to stop it.”

Jamestown finished with a 6-5 advantage in shots and both goalies — Jamestown’s Ben Morgan and Clinton’s Travis Agoney — made three saves.

“It was a tough loss especially going out ahead,” said Eppler. “We need to mark better on defense. We got off to a 2-0 start and then kind of got flat-footed.

“We played well the last 25 minutes of the game and took the play to them. That was nice to see. But we have to play like that for 90 minutes.”

The Cougars play Corning C.C. today at 1 p.m.
