Women's Soccer Preview 2006

The Clinton Women Soccer team will open their season on Friday, September 1st.The roster has 18 players this year with a mix of veterans and newcomers.Coach Donna Dixon has lead the Cougars to a 16-3 record last season. The Cougars have wonthe Northern Independents Conference (NIC) five years in a row and have reached the NJCAA Division III Final Four.Coach Dixon said, "We have nine players returning and nine players coming in. We have good experience, with six starters returning this season. The big thing for us is ball possession. We also need to be patient." Coach also said,"There's no question the girls are competitive. They just need to get on the same page and set their own identity."Sophomore midfields Saania Duprey (eight goals, three assists) and Liz Everett (five goals, six assists) will be counted on to lead the team this season. Everett was named to the All Region Team last year. Duprey made the NIC All Conference Team.Jennifer Vliege and Katie Matteson both Sophomores will be on offense. Meeghan Trim, a Sophomore will be a forward. Other Sophomores include, Karissa House, Jessica Gadway, Lindsey Levesque and Becky Abbott in goal. Freshman include, midfielder Shellie Fletcher and forward Stephanie Brodi. On defense for the Freshman include, Maggie Hamelin, Olivia Dukett, Jamie Cressey and Alicia Reynolds.Coach Dixon is hoping for a strong season and is using a new system. "We are going to switch to a 4-4-2 to take advantage of our speed on the outside."Rosters and schedules may be found online.
