Plattsburgh, New York….The Color Guard from the Fountain Brothers Post 1619 American Legion were on campus November 11 to participate in the College’s Veteran’s Day celebration and to present the Clinton Community College Foundation with a check in support of The Crab Island Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was established in 2005 to help non-traditional students pursue a degree at Clinton Community College. The scholarship is supported by the Crab Island-Post 1619 American Legion Memorial Fund and was named in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives in defense of our freedoms.

Dr. Frederick Woodward, CCC president, and Steven Frederick, associate vice president for institutional advancement, were there to accept the check for $3000 from Post 1619 representatives “This is a gift that will change lives,” said Frederick. “It provides an opportunity to receive a college education for those who may otherwise be unable, and that kind of generosity just can’t be measured.”

The scholarship is awarded annually in the fall and spring semesters. It covers the cost of tuition and books for one academic year, with continued funding for a second year as long as a 2.5 GPA or better is maintained. Candidates must be a resident of Clinton, Franklin, or Essex County. All academic majors are considered and preference is given to family members of Fountain Brothers Post 1619 American Legion and non-traditional adult students.

Details regarding the scholarship are available on the college website or by contacting the Foundation office at 562-4195.
