Monday, November 17, 2008

Plattsburgh, New York ….A new program in Wind Energy and Turbine Technology, Associate in Applied Science degree, will be offered at Clinton Community College beginning in January 2009. The program was developed by Janice Padula, professor of math/science at CCC. The college was pleased by the approval of the State Education Department and State University of New York. The program focuses on training individuals to work on the vast number of turbines being built each year.

The new program came about as a work force initiative designed to address alternative energy careers in our area and to help meet the growing need for trained technicians. Padula explained, "With wind energy as the largest growing industry in the world, the college is in a perfect position to offer the program and begin teaching the necessary courses."

Cheryl Reagan, vice president for academic affairs, said, "I am excited that CCC will be in the forefront of this endeavor as a contributor to the region’s needed alternative energy initiatives."

The Wind Energy and Turbine Technology program will compliment the two new related programs, the Electrical Technology: Electronics, and the Computer Technology Associate of Applied Science degrees for the Business and Technology Division.
