CCC Hosts Winter Commencement for Class of 2008

Plattsburgh, New York – Clinton Community College's Winter Commencement ceremony will take place on Friday, December 12, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. Over 144 graduates are eligible to receive associate degrees and certificates at the ceremony to be held in the gymnasium of the William H. Forrence Health, Physical Education and Recreation Center.

Dr. Frederick W. Woodward, CCC interim president, will officiate at the commencement exercises.

Angela Alphonso, assistant professor of health /physical education, will lead the graduation procession carrying the ceremonial Mace. Alphonso was chosen as marshal by the Faculty Council.

Nina D. Coolidge, chair of the CCC Board of Trustees, will extend greetings to the graduates. Jackie Walker will greet the graduates on behalf of the Clinton County Legislators. Michael Helinger, professor in math, will address the graduates as the Faculty Council representative. Jeffrey Defayette, student senate president, Plattsburgh, NY, will address his fellow students.

Kimberly Jean Recore, of Peru is the Class of 2008 valedictorian and student speaker for the winter commencement ceremony. She will receive an Associate of Arts Degree in Humanities and Social Science. An area native, Recore plans to continue her education this spring at SUNY Plattsburgh, studying psychology. She is interested in a future career in counseling. “Being a non-traditional student, I was a bit skeptical of returning to the everyday rituals that a traditional classroom has to offer,” Recore said. “I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of transition offered here at CCC.”

Daniel Privee, of Plattsburgh, is the class salutatorian and will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration.

Dr. Cheryl Reagan, vice president for academic affairs, will present the candidates for graduation. The December Class of 2008 has 17 students graduating with honors; five graduate cum laude, six graduate magna cum laude and four graduate suma cum laude. Seventeen graduates are members of Phi Theta Kappa the National Honor Society of the Two-Year College.

Music for the ceremony will be performed by the CCC College Chorale, under the direction of Saundra Stortz and accompanied by Alex Malsan. The National Anthem will be sung by Matthew “Doc” Sheehan, assistant professor of math/science at CCC.

A reception will immediately follow the ceremony and the public is welcome to attend.
