CCC Accounting Students Learn by Doing

Plattsburgh, NY – Terri Cummings, associate professor business and technology, had her accounting students take part in a class project in November to utilize their business and accounting skills. The students, one of which is a hospitality major who wants to be a chef and another who is planning on a career in event planning, joined the other students to organize a Thanksgiving Breakfast for the 10 Chinese students attending Clinton. They are part of the SUNY China 150 students from the Sichuan Provence who are studying in the U.S. for a year.

The students planned out every detail in organizing and hosting the event. They considered the number of people invited, the make up of the budget, the amount of food necessary to purchase, the kind of wait service which would be offered, the event location, set up, and finally the preparation, serving and hosting.

The breakfast event was a total success, the meal was enjoyed by all who attended and the students received valuable experience as a result of the project. Associate Professor, Cummings plans to have students do a similar project each semester in her class.
