French Instructor Presents at Language Conference

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Clinton Community College adjunct instructor, David Graham, was invited to co-present at the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers conference in Buffalo, New York, October 9-11, 2009.  The theme of the conference was Language Teachers: Seeing the Needs, Making a Difference.  Graham has taught Elementary French Levels I and II at Clinton Community College since 2004.

Graham co-presented twice at the conference that was attended by 300 language teachers from all regions of the state.   Two examples of his presentations are:

La Musique de Mes Aïeux:  In December 2006, the group Mes Aïeux won both song of the year for "Dégénérations" and album of the year for the recording "Tire-roi une Bûche" at the Quebec Music Awards.  In this presentation, Graham and his colleague, Madeline Turan, from SUNY Stony Brook, suggested ways teachers can use the festive, eclectic music from their CD/DVD recording in the classroom and geared the presentation to high school teachers, those offering college credit in the high school, and post-secondary educators.  The workshop was offered in both English and French.

La Musique Québécoise: Palmarès 2009 - Québec Music: Hit Parade 2009: Co-presenting once again, Graham and Madeline Turan, selected audio, video, and YouTube versions of twenty of the songs nominated for this year’s Québec Music Awards.  They suggested ways teachers could use the songs’ lyrics, audio, and video images to teach comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and culture.  The presentation was geared for all levels of instructors and was presented in French.
