Spring 2010 Commencement - May 14th

Plattsburgh, New York… More than two hundred forty-six graduates are eligible to receive associate degrees and certificates at Clinton Community College's Spring Commencement exercises on Friday, May 14, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of the William H. Forrence Center. Gary Henry, assistant professor of science, was chosen to lead the graduation procession as Faculty Marshal carrying the ceremonial Mace. The processional will be accompanied by members of the Champlain District Bagpipe Band.

Dr. Cheryl Reagan, vice president for academic affairs, will preside over the commencement exercises. Greetings will be extended to the graduates by John E. Jablonski, CCC President, Nina D. Coolidge, Chair of the CCC Board of Trustees and James R. Langley, Jr., Chair of the Clinton County Legislature. Marta Clute, Professor of English, will give greetings on behalf of the CCC Faculty Council. Clute is retiring in June following 18 years of dedicated service to the college. Student Senate President, Beverly Boatwright will address her
fellow classmates.

Class of 2010 valedictorian and student speaker, Vivian A. Kiroy is from Saranac, NY. She graduates with an A.S. in Business Administration.

"When I returned to college at the ripe old age of 51," said Kiroy, "I was very worried about my ability to keep up with the coursework. Instead, I found that my life experience supported a more rounded view of the world and my grades reflected that additional knowledge. Going forward, I plan to pursue my undergraduate degree at Empire State College and possibly a graduate degree beyond that. Thanks to Clinton, I can say that I have become a life-long learner."

Class of 2010 salutatorian is Kassandra Lynn Ashline from Champlain, NY. She also graduates with an A.S. in Business Administration degree.

Dr. Stephen St. Onge, vice president for student services, will present the Class of 2010 candidates for graduation. President John E. Jablonski and CCC Board of Trustees Chair, Nina Coolidge, will confer the degrees. Forty-eight
students are graduating with honors. Three students are receiving two degrees. This year’s graduating class has 22 students graduating Cum laude (QPA 3.25-3.49), 18 students graduating Magna cum laude (QPA 3.5-3.74), and eight students graduating Summa cum laude (QPA 3.75 or above) and have completed at least half of their credit hours at Clinton. Twenty-eight students are members of the Alpha Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the National Honor Society of the Two-Year College.

The 2009-2010 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence recipient is Jacob Ballard of Alburg, VT
. The Chancellor’s Awards are given out annually to students who earn a Grade Point Average of 3.78 or higher and record a significant contribution to their campus or local community.

The 2009-2010 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching is being presented to Dr. Lynn Fowler, professor in Science. The 2009-2010 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service is being presented to Donna Dixon, admissions advisory/athletic program specialist. The 2009-2010 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service is being presented to Jennifer Waite, associate professor in Human Services. The 2009-2010 Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Service is being presented to Jennifer Szalkowski, Typist/Processing Center.

The College Alumni Association’s 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award is being presented to Sheriff, David Favro. Favro is a 1981 graduate of Clinton Community College

The music for the graduation ceremony will be provided by the CCC College Chorale, under the direction of Saundra Stortz and accompanied by CCC pianist Megan Riley. The National Anthem will be
sung by graduating student, Joselyn Gregory.

The ceremony is open to the public.
