Battle of Plattsburgh 200th Anniversary Events

2014 marks the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Plattsburgh. To help commemorate, the following events will be held at Clinton Community College. All events are free and open to the public!


Wednesday September 10th


Crab Island Field Hospital Re-enactment
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
On the lawn on east side of the Moore Building, overlooking Lake Champlain and Crab Island.


This is a unique opportunity for students, faculty/staff and visitors to get a sense of what it was like 200 years ago when wounded American and British sailors/soldiers were brought to the field hospital on Crab Island. See the surgical instruments used at that time and the medical treatment they received. Supporting cooking and living tents will show what life was like in 1814.

 


Thursday September 11th


Crab Island Field Hospital Re-enactment

Crab Island Memorial Ceremony & Bagpipers
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
On the lawn on east side of the Moore Building, overlooking Lake Champlain and Crab Island.
 
This ceremony will be held on Crab Island, but will be visible from the bluff. Bagpipers will join viewers on the bluff to accompany the ceremony.



“Hacks, Sycophants, Adventurers, and Heroes: Madison's Commanders in the War of 1812”
1:30-2:30 PM
Lakeside verandah of George Moore Building.

Visiting author Col. David Fitz-Enz will host a lively discussion on his newest book.



Hero’s Welcome and Naval Engagement Memorial Ceremony
6:30 – 7:00 PM
Lakeside verandah of George Moore Building.

American Legion Post 1619 will present this memorial ceremony, which will include remarks from local and national dignitaries. (Canons may be fired at this time.)



Adirondack Jazz Orchestra and the US Navy Band “Big Band” Concert
Followed by Fireworks display over Crab Island
 
7:00 – 9:00 PM
Under the tent, lakeside lawn of George Moore Building.

This big band concert will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display over Crab Island! 


 

All the above events are free and open to the public. Food, snacks, ice cream, drinks etc will be available to purchase Thursday evening until 9:00 pm. Please come out and support the FSA!
