Clinton Community College News Release

September 14, 2005
For Immediate Release

PLATTSBURGH, NEW YORK – A group of 30 Clinton Community College faculty, staff and students met this week to plan for the college’s efforts around hurricane relief and aid.  The group under the leadership of Willow Nolland, assistant in continuing education and June Foley, associate professor of social science announced their plans to help support the relief efforts by holding a bake sale and raffle on Friday, September 16th, at the college. Proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity. At the same time, they will be signing up people interested in becoming Red Cross volunteers. Their plan includes a formal dance held toward the end of the semester with all proceeds going to Katrina Relief and the organization of an alternative Winter Break to go south to help.

The group has integrated the relief efforts into other campus activities. On September 7th, at the Annual Fall Carnival they set up a table where students could sign up and/or make donations to the relief effort. They plan to raise money at the Amazing Race, on September 16th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on the campus oval. Student Services and the Resident Life team sponsor the event. It is described as a series of modified relay races made up of twenty 4-man teams. The original ideas were taken from the popular TV shows; Fear Factor, Survivor and the Amazing Race. The relief effort group is seeking sponsorship for the various teams.

Individuals outside the College can help by donating items to be raffled or sponsoring a team at the Amazing Race.
