Plattsburgh, NY .… A Clinton Community College student is the recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. Robin Belanger of West Chazy, New York, a December 2005 graduate, was named by SUNY Chancellor John B. Ryan as a 2006 Chancellor’s Award winner.

Robin Belanger graduated from CCC in December 2005 with an Associate of Arts degree in humanities and social science. She not only graduated with high honors, she was named class valedictorian. Belanger plans to continue her education and earn a master’s degree in special education from Plattsburgh State University. “As a teacher,” said Belanger, “I hope to bring the process full circle and provide the same encouragement to my students one day.”

“Robin exemplifies the hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance of our students,” said Dr. Maurice Hickey, president of CCC. “Her accomplishments at Clinton Community College will translate into significant contributions to our community, and she will serve as a role model for those around her.”

On Monday, April 10, 2006, Chancellor John R. Ryan honored 270 students from 62 SUNY campuses with the 2006 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. The Awards are given out annually to students who earn a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.78 or higher and record a significant contribution to their campus or local community.

"Recipients of this year's awards have excelled academically and, in many cases, far exceeded even their own expectations in their pursuit of higher education and community involvement," said Chancellor Ryan. "The Chancellor's Award for Excellence is given to the best and the brightest students across the SUNY System. I am pleased to see so many recipients this year from nearly all of our campuses. I commend the campus presidents and their faculty and staff for discovering and enhancing student excellence throughout the year."

Each year, campus presidents establish a selection committee, which reviews exemplary members of their college communities who are graduating. Nominees are then forwarded to the Chancellor's Office and

are subject to a second round of review. Finalists are then recommended to the Chancellor to become recipients of the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
