CCC Hosts Winter Commencement for Class of 2006

PLATTSBURGH, NEW YORK – Clinton Community College's (CCC) Winter Commencement will take place on Friday, December 15, 2006, at 6:00 p.m. Over 148 graduates are eligible to receive associate degrees and certificates at the ceremony to be held in the gymnasium of the William H. Forrence Health, Physical Education and Recreation Center.

Dr. Maurice “Moe” Hickey, CCC president, will officiate at the commencement exercises. Nina D. Coolidge, chair of the CCC Board of Trustees, Kay Stafford, SUNY Board of Trustees, and Robert W. Heins, Clinton County Legislator will extend greetings to the graduates. June M. Foley, professor in the history and social sciences division and as faculty council chair, will extend greetings to the graduates on behalf of that body. Kayleigh Allen, of Plattsburgh will address her fellow students as president of the Student Senate.

Lynda Mulcahy, of Peru, is the Class of 2006 valedictorian and student speaker for the commencement ceremony. Bethany Leveille, of Plattsburgh, is the class salutatorian. Both women are graduating with degrees in business administration.

Dr. Paul Almonte, vice president for academic affairs, will present the candidates for graduation. The December Class of 2006 has 25 students graduating with honors and 9 students graduating with high honors.

In a special presentation and in recognition of the college’s fortieth anniversary year,

Melvin R. Bruno, will be awarded an honorary degree of Associate in Humane Letters, by President Hickey and Nina Coolidge. A Clinton County Supervisor back in 1966, Bruno proved to be a strong advocate for the creation of a community college in Clinton County.

Janice Padula, professor of math and science, was chosen faculty marshal by the Faculty Council. Padula will lead the graduation procession carrying the ceremonial Mace.

Music for the ceremony will be performed by the CCC College Chorale, under the direction of Saundra Stortz. Soloist Barbara Criss, will sing the National anthem. Meghan Riley is the accompanist.
