Seeking a Higher Degree in Human Services?

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

Starting fall 2007, Clinton Community College will be collaborating with Cazenovia College, in Cazenovia, New York, to provide graduates of the Clinton Community College Human Services Program with the opportunity to obtain their Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree on a part-time basis. Local, affordable classes that meet the degree requirements will be available through Cazenovia College at Clinton Community College. Financial aid will be available to students who qualify. To accommodate working professionals, classes will be taught in late afternoon and early evening. Courses will cost $200 per credit hour for a total of $600 per three-credit course. Students will graduate with a degree from Cazenovia College.

Jennifer Waite, Clinton Community College coordinator of the partnership, noted, “adjunct professors from the Plattsburgh area will be instructing the classes; however they will be on the Cazenovia College payroll.” All administration will be handled through the office of Dr. Mary Handley, the program director at Cazenovia College.

Clinton Community College’s Human Services Department offers one- and two-year programs, where students may obtain an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S) degree. The joint program can be completed over three additional years of study.

By adding the new bachelor’s degree program, Clinton Community College can now promote expanded career opportunities for its graduates. Unlike transferring to a bachelor’s degree program elsewhere, this partnership spares students the need to catch

up on course work or take more courses merely to make up requirements. The collaboration of Clinton Community College and Cazenovia College will permit students to further their education with little or no disruption to their academic career.
