INCLUDING ILLUSTRATIONS IN A RESEARCH PROJECT • Locate illustration as near as possible to the relevant area of the text.
• Label illustration
Figure, and give it a number, along with a caption, consisting of a descriptive phrase. Include name of artist if known, last name first.
Example:
Figure 1. Galante, N. Pathfinder-Plus, a flying wing powered by solar energy, relaying phone, video, and Internet communications in flight over Hawaii.
• Place label and caption underneath illustration. Use same margins as the rest of the paper.
• For parenthetical references, cite the work using the figure number.
Example: (Figure 1).
