New Web Site F.A.Q

Why do we need a new site?

The goals behind the new site are explained in this Clinton Times article

Some Information on the new site is incorrect who do I contact?
The new content management system allows each office/division to be in charge of their own content.  If you notice something which is incorrect or if a site lacks information you will need to contact the division coordinator or the office supervisor.

Other external sites have linked to my office or division site, what's going to happen to that? The new site will have a redirection mechanism which will translate the web address pointing to some of the major areas in our old website to their proper location within the new site. It's highly recommended that you advise the operators of these external sites to update their links accordingly.

Will the migration or the downtime affect the faculty web server?

No, the faculty web server will continue to operate normally with no changes.

My office or division had access to certain folders on the new site, what's going to happen to that?

Management of content on the new site will be done strictly through the administrative gateway, direct access to folders and files within the web server will be restricted to the system administrators only.

I am still not finished with my site, what should I do?

It is not necessary to have a full complete site, only the base-minimum for starters will be sufficient. This means information about your department or office, staff list (which is setup in seconds). If you need further assistance, contact the Technology Coordinator.

If we're designing our own sites, what's the role of the web coordinator?

The Web Coordinator along with the rest of the IT Team will focus on building additional tools and adding more features to the current system. This will help us make certain tasks more efficient by partially or fully automating them. It will also allow us to reduce cost in some cases.

A good example is Clinton Conversations: Building the old newsletter took approximately 11 hours total. The new Clinton Times not only provides more interactive features as such syndicated news and weather, but takes about 15 minutes to publish! This is a considerable improvement.

I need some help with graphics, who should I contact?

For assistance with web graphics, you may contact the College Relations Office for help, or the Web Coordinator.

My supervisor or division coordinator asked me to work on our site, do I need extensive training?

We at IT understand that you have many responsibilities in our growing college, that is why we have set up many tools to let you publish content without ever knowing how the web works, or any other technical knowledge. The new site is designed specifically to substantially reduce the amount of time needed to publish content on the web.

What is the Clinton Times and what happened to Clinton Conversations?

Clinton Conversations has been replaced by the more interactive Clinton Times which contains syndicated headlines from USA Today, News from our campus community, and Weather forecast .We're planning more customization features in the future!

It is now easier than ever to submit a story about any topic to the Clinton Times, contact College Relations for more information.

What about College Closings?

College Closings will appear on the announcements section of the front page (of the main site) in RED.

What browsers should I use?

The public site supports most browsers but is best viewed with Mozilla Firefox (www.mozilla.org), or Microsoft Internet Explorer (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie)

The administrative site can only be accessed with Microsoft internet explorer 5 or greater. (6 is highly recommended)

I have additional questions, who do I contact?

  • Marketing/Graphic Related questions: College Relations Office
  • Degree or academic information: Academic Affairs Office
  • Directory Information: Human Resources Office
  • Passwords, or login information: Technology Coordinator
  • Suggestions for tools, or enhancements: The Web Coordinator directly
  • Technical Questions: Technology Coordinator
  • Content of a particular site: The office / division supervisor or coordinator
  • Requests for access to make changes: Your Supervisor/Division Coordinator

I really think some parts of the new site could be done differently, what should I do?

Let IT know! We value your comments and suggestions. Our goal is to make it easy for you to do the work which keeps our College running.
