Why did CCC implement a print quota?

In an effort to be more environmentally conscious and to help reduce the use of paper goods here on campus, a new print quota system is being implemented starting in the Spring Semester of 2005. At the beginning of each semester, every student will start with a 500 printed page allotment. A notice will be given (in the form of a “pop-up” window) when the allocation reaches 400 sheets that there are 100 sheets remaining. After the initial 500 sheets are used up, additional sheets may be purchased at a rate of $5.00 per 100 sheets. This will have no impact on most users as in the past under 2% of the student body as a whole have exceeded 500 printed sheets.
