The nursing program at CCC has a long history of serving the community . In 1910, the "Grey Nuns" recognized the need for nurses in the community and opened a diploma nursing program at Champlain Valley Hospital. Nurses from the Champlain Valley Hospital Nursing Program played a vital role in health care for Plattsburgh and the outlying areas. In 1977, the diploma program moved to Clinton Community College and became a two year associate degree nursing program.

Here are some of the successes of the Nursing Program at CCC.

May 2004, we celebrated graduation of the 25th class of CCC nurses. Dr. Agnes Pearl, past Director of Nursing, was honored with a endowed scholarship managed through the College Foundation.
In 2005, the Nursing Program was recommended for eight years of continuing accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. NLNAC accreditation is one indicator of a quality nursing program.
Over the past ten years, CCC nursing graduates have attained passing rates on the licensing exam for RNs that exceeds by a good margin the state and national passing rates. Of the May 2009 graduates who have taken the NCLEX, 93% have passed the licensing exam.
The majority of our most recent nursing graduates found employment in the health care field, a trend that most likely will continue.
Many of our graduates start work toward a higher degree through transferring straight into a four year program and earning a bachelor's degree in another two years. We have formal articulation agreements with several senior colleges, however the nursing program will transfer to most senior colleges without any difficulty.
Each year 70 new students are admitted to the two year Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Nursing Program. Admission into the Nursing Program is selective and requires a separate application along with the general college application. Applicants are selected who demonstrate a strong background in math and science and who we believe will be successful in the educational programs.
