1. Mrs. Coolidge welcomed David Ponitz, Consultant to the Presidential Search Committee recently hired by the Board of Trustees. Dr. Ponitz is President Emeritus of Sinclair CC in Ohio and has spent over 3 decades leading community colleges, agencies, and institutions across the nation. He has conducted over 65 Presidential/Chancellor searches on system with large and smaller campuses.
2. At the encouragement of Dr. Ponitz, several community members and an additional student will be added to the structure of the committee. Judy Cavanaugh suggested that Ron Poland’s vacant slot be filled.
3. A letter regarding the search process from Dr. Dennis Golladay, Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges, to the CCC Board of Trustees was distributed to the committee.
4. The search process timeframe needs to be updated. It is anticipated that the new start date for a President will be Spring 2009.
5. A brochure will be created for distribution, and the position will be readvertised.
6. The Presidential Prospectus was reviewed and discussion ensued regarding a number of recommended changes. Dr. Ponitz will prepare a draft to be distributed to the committee for review.
7. Committee members discussed the process with Dr. Ponitz based on a process sheet he furnished the committee.
8. Patricia Pietropaolo stressed the importance of a candidate understanding the layering of authority within SUNY and the State, i.e., Board of Trustees, County Legislature, Systems Administration and the NYS Department of Education.
9. There was discussion about when the committee would meet again. A date will be determined in the future.
