COMPOSER OF “BRIDGE MUSIC” TO SPEAK AT CCC

Clinton Community College will host composer Joseph Bertolozzi on Wednesday, April 7, at noon in the Stafford Auditorium. Mr. Bertolozzi will present a lecture-demonstration on his acclaimed composition, Bridge Music.

Students of music, arts management, marketing, and government will all find this presentation to be of value and interest.

Joseph Bertolozzi's Bridge Music is a site-specific sound art installation created for the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge (the Mid-Hudson Bridge), a suspension bridge spanning the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, NY.

Striking, tapping, and scraping various surfaces of the bridge yielded surprisingly music sounds, which Bertolozzi then composed into his work. The bridge became its own orchestra. The sounds are as sampled without computer manipulation, and only the sounds of the bridge comprise the music.

The recording of the ten-movement Bridge Music on the Delos label charted on Billboard and made it to the Grammy ballots.

Bertolozzi’s lecture will be part of a large celebration of bridges and their significance in our lives. Other events include a photography display and reception.
