Basic Photo Editing for Beginners Would you like to crop, rotate, and change the size of your digital photos? Wish you could remove red-eye and adjust the brightness of some of your favorite shots? Have you tried Photoshop, but couldn’t keep up? Then come join us for this Basic Digital Photo Editing workshop and learn how to edit your digital photos easily, using FREE online programs! Some computer skills required, no experience with photo editing necessary. Students should bring a flash drive with 10 photos on it to work on during class. Topics that will be covered include: Organization, web storage, and back up; Picasa; XnView; Photobucket; Shutterfly; Paint.Net, Resizing for posting (Facebook, Ebay etc.); and any additional Participant Requests – bring your ideas and questions!

Watercolor Collage Art Learn how to produce original watercolor collages using paint and paper assemblages. The instructor will demonstrate how to layer and assemble artwork pieces effectively. Join us in this innovative and enjoyable community environment. Please bring original drawings and photographs. The instructor will produce a demonstration in the first class. This class is conducive to Beginners as well as artists at all levels.

5 Hour Pre-Licensing

The Five Hour Pre-Licensing course is required in order to obtain a New York State driver’s license. Participants will learn to recognize and define driving as a mental, physical, and social task involving the interaction of the operator, the environment, and the vehicle; to identify factors that can impair a driver’s ability and the legal and moral responsibilities of highway users; and to recognize dangerous drivers and driving situations and how to react safely to protect themselves from possible injury or death by using seat belts. Students enrolling in the Five Hour Pre-Licensing Course must have a valid Learner’s Permit and must bring their NYS Learner’s Permit to class. Note: This class is mandated by New York State and each participant must be in class at the exact starting time listed. Late arrivals are neither allowed in class, nor are eligible for a refund. The completion certificate given at the end of the course is valid for 1 year and must be presented to the DMV in order to schedule the road test. If the road test is not scheduled prior to the certificate expiration, the course must be repeated.

Boater Safety

NYS Parks and Recreation Boater Safety is a mandatory boater safety course covers all PWC's (Personal Water Craft) which includes boats and jet skis. Mandatory attendance at each session is required and an exam at the completion. The class will cover all aspects of PWC safety. Applications will be available to all who pass the exam so that they may apply for their certification. Certification costs $10 for those 18 and up and is free for those ages 10-17.

Defensive Driving Got a traffic ticket? Need to reduce the points on your license? Simply complete this course, approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, to remove up to four points off your license. Completion of this New York DMV-approved Point and Insurance Reduction Program (also known as PIRP and defensive driving) provides a 10% reduction, for 3 years, of the motorist's liability, no-fault and collision insurance premiums.
Your car insurance discount is awarded on your current policy. You do not have to change your insurer or insurance agent. To qualify, you must have received the points within 18 months of course completion.

Investment Executive, Steve Waite, will provide guidance and insight to help you with your planning. After the course, students would have a better idea of their timeline to retirement and what steps they may need to take to reach their goals.

Protecting Assets from the Costs of Nursing Home Care This 3 hour seminar will provide you with the knowledge you need to protect your assets from the costs of nursing home care, (currently over $8,000 per month!) whether you are single or married, in the event that you or your spouse enters a nursing home in the future. The seminar will focus on protecting your house and money through the use of transfers and trusts. The following topics will be discussed: Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, limits of Medicare, eligibility requirements for Medicaid, transfer penalty rules, exempt transfers, promissory notes, protecting the home, life estates, irrevocable trusts, and Medicaid liens.

Lunch-Time Yoga Integral Yoga integrates mind, body & spirit and gives students the tools they need to live peaceful, healthy, joyful and useful lives. Each class incorporates postures, deep relaxation, breathing practices and meditation, resulting in peace and wellbeing. The student achieves greater flexibility, strength, poise and mental focus. Students should bring a yoga mat and if desired, blocks and/or straps. Students should wear comfortable clothes they can move around in.

Survival Gardening Part I

This practical gardening class will introduce information and tactics to help students achieve effective gardens in the North Country area. Improve your gardening skills through instructor presentations, class exercises, group discussions and garden planning. Students will gain a basic understanding of entry-level gardening and companion planting through presentations and student group discussions. Class groups will also create rough garden plans and rough sketches. Most of the class will focus on garden planning with some lecture/presentation accompaniment.

Language & Writing L'italiano Sano - Healthy Italian

Learn the Italian language and culture through the food! This class will present the healthy cuisine of Italy as students learn the Italian language for real life purposes. Emphasis will be on communication skills and vocabulary acquisition. Participants will learn how to prepare simple and healthy recipes that are the foundation of Italian meals and culture. Students will participate in discussions about food and culture and will witness demonstrations of cooking techniques via video clips and through various media. Please note, students will not be cooking in class, but they will learn cooking techniques and will receive recipes to try at home.

American Red Cross Babysitter Training  American Red Cross Babysitter's Training gives 11-15 year olds the skills and confidence they need to become great babysitters. This 6 hour class covers training in care giving, decision making, safety and first aid skills, as well as information on prevention and response to emergencies. Course participants receive The Babysitter's Training Handbook, which provides course review and 30 easy-to-follow first aid action plans for handling emergencies.
Professional Development AHA Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (CPR) This course is designed to teach adult, child, and infant CPR in a healthcare setting. The course focuses on the use of CPR and basic life support skills for doctors, nurses, nurse aids, clinical assistants, EMTs, summer camp counselors and more. Students must obtain a book at the time of registration and should read the book prior to class starting.
Students will earn the American Heart Association BLS certification, valid for two years, upon completion of the course.

Notary Public Test Prep The NYS Notary exam is not included in the course registration fee or administered by the college. However, the Division of licensing Services does use our classrooms for the exams. For information on what a notary does, notary laws, exam dates, times, fees, and registration process please visit the website for the  Department of State Division of Licensing Services.  The New York Notary exam is a thorough test of an individual’s knowledge on New York Notary laws and procedure.  This seminar provides the practical training participants need to do well on the exam.  This course will also teach students how to notarize correctly, lawfully and safely.
