I. LIBRARY HOURS & POLICIES: See library’s website at http://www.clinton.edu/DouglasLibrary/  

II. ACTIVATING YOUR CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE COMPUTER ACCOUNT
        • Username: First four letters of your last name plus the last four numbers of your Social Security 
            number. Remember to use lower case, and no spaces. (e.g. smit1234) 
        • Password: Your entire Social Security number, with no hyphens. (e.g. 123456789). When you 
            login for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password.

III. FINDING BOOKS USING THE LIBRARY’S CATALOG: 
        1. Go to the CCC website at www.clinton.edu 
        2. Click "Douglas Library." 
        3. Under the heading "Find Books, Videos, and More," click on "Library Catalog." 
        4. Type your search term(s) in the box and click "Go."

        • Arrangement: Books are arranged on the shelves by subject, in order by call number. 
        • Availability: Clicking “Is it here?” will let you know when a borrowed item is due. 
        • Call Number: You will need the call number to find the book on the shelf. 
        • Determining Whether or Not an Item Has Been Borrowed: This information is listed under 
            "Copies Owned/Out." If the catalog says, “0 out,” it means the item is available. 
        • More Information: Click the title of the item to find more information about that item. 
        • PSUNY: You may also borrow books from Feinberg Library at PSUNY with a valid CCC ID. 

        "All Fields" Searches Versus "Subject" Searches 
        • When you do an "All Fields" search, the computer looks for your terms in author, title, subject, 
            etc. fields. 
            1. Type your search terms in the box. 
            2. Click "Go." Notice the number of results. 

        • When you do a "Words in Subject" search, the computer only looks for items in the subject 
            heading field. 
            1. Type your search terms in the box. 
            2. Change the top box that says, "All Fields" to "Words in Subject.” 
            3. Click "Go." Notice the number of results. It is likely to be less than you got when you searched 
                all fields.

IV. FINDING PERIODICAL ARTICLES USING ONLINE DATABASES: 
        To access the library databases 
        1. Go to www.clinton.edu.  
        2. Click "Douglas Library." 
        3. Under the heading "Find Articles," click on "Online Periodicals (Databases)." 
        4. Choose a database. 
        5. Your username and password are the same ones that you use to login to the CCC computers. 

        Types of periodical databases 
        1. General/multidisciplinary - Cover all subjects. 
        2. Subject-Specific - Cover a particular area of knowledge, such as science. 

    1. HEALTH & WELLNESS RESOURCE CENTER DATABASE: 
        On the library’s website, under the FIND ARTICLES heading, click on "Online Periodicals 
        (Databases).
" Then click on "Alphabetical List" and select "Health and Wellness Resource 
        Center and Alternative Health Module
" from the list. If the ezPROXY Login page appears, 
        enter your username and password. 

        To find information in the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine available through the Health 
        & Wellness Resource Center, click on
"Diseases & Conditions.
        
        To find peer-reviewed journal articles: 
        a) Click on the "Advanced Search" button on right side of the top menu. 
        b) Type your search term(s) in a blank box. A keyword search will retrieve results with your search 
            term(s) in the title, abstract, subject heading, author, or first 100 words of text. You can also 
            choose a specific field to search from the drop down menu. 
           
        c) Under "Limit the current search," put a check mark in the box next to "Full text articles
            and in the box next to "Refereed publications." 
          
        d) Click on < Search >

    2. CINAHL PLUS WITH FULL TEXT DATABASE: 
        On the library’s website, under the FIND ARTICLES heading, click on "Online Periodicals 
        (Databases).
" Then click on the heading "Alphabetical List" and select "CINAHL Plus with 
        Full Text
" from the list. If the ezPROXY Login page appears, enter your username and password. 
        a) Click on link for "Advanced Search" below the search box. 
        b) Then add your search term(s) to a blank search box. The search will retrieve results that contain 
            your term(s) in the title, abstract, or subject heading. You can also select a specific field to search 
            using the drop down menu.          
        c) Under "Limit your results," put a check mark in the "Full Text" box. 
             
        d) Click in the box to limit your search to "Peer Reviewed" publications. 
            
        e) Then click < Search >

    3. PsycARTICLES:
        On the library’s website, under the FIND ARTICLES heading, click on "Online Periodicals 
        (Databases).
" Then click on "Alphabetical List" and select "PsycArticles" from the list. If 
        the ezPROXY Login page appears, enter your username and password. 
        a) When the search screen appears, be sure to remove the check mark in the box before PsycINFO 
            in order to limit your search to full text articles in the PsyARTICLES database only. 
            
        b) Click in box labeled "Look for" and type in your main subject. 
        c) Click in next empty box and type in additional search terms. 
           
        d) Click on red < Search > button. 

    4. SCIENCE DIRECT:
        On the library’s website, under the "FIND ARTICLES" heading, click on "Online Periodicals 
        (Databases).
" Then click on the heading "Alphabetical List" and select "Science Direct" from 
        the list. If the ezPROXY Login page appears, enter your username and password. 
        a) Click on the green "Search" button under Science Direct logo. 
             
        b) Click on the gray tab labeled "Journals." 
            
        c) Example: Click in box labeled "Terms," type your search term(s) in an empty box. 
        d) Under "Source," change the drop down menu from "All journals" to "Subscribed journals." 
            
        g) Select required dates and click on the "Search" button at the bottom of the screen. 
             

V. CITING SOURCES USING APA STYLE: 
    • Guides for citing your sources according to APA style are available in the library and on the library’s 
        website, under the heading "Find Research Tools." 
    • The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association is available in the library’s 
        Reference Collection: REF BF 76.7 .P83 2001. There are additional copies in the library’s General 
        Collection that can be checked out of the library: BF 76.7 .P83 2001.
