Policy on Recreational, Popular and Fictional Materials and Gifts

Recreational, Popular and Fictional Materials

The Douglas Library maintains a basic collection of the standard novels, classics and semi-classics of world literature.  Popular and recreational reading materials are selected to meet the interests of the student population.  Materials of young adult reading level are obtained to meet the needs of students with language difficulties and to encourage the enjoyment of reading.

Gifts

The Douglas Library welcomes gifts of useful materials or money to purchase materials, provided they fit into its collection development policy and provided there are no restrictions attached as to their disposition or location.  Donors are entitled to an acknowledgment for gifts received, but the Library cannot provide a dollar amount on the gift or an appraisal of gift materials for income tax, inheritance or any other purpose.  The Library reserves the right to keep or dispose of any gift materials, based on collection needs and policy.
