The Five Hour Pre-Licensing course is required in order to obtain a New York State driver’s license.

Student Learner Permit: The student must present his/her photo learner permit to the instructor at the pre-licensing course.  The photo learner permit is the only acceptable form of identification. 

Participants will learn to recognize and define driving as a mental, physical, and social task involving the interaction of the operator, the environment, and the vehicle; to identify factors that can impair a driver’s ability and the legal and moral responsibilities of highway users; and to recognize dangerous drivers and driving situations and how to react safely to protect themselves from possible injury or death by using seat belts.The completion certificate given at the end of the course is valid for 1 year.

Please note: Taking this course is for those who hold a NYS learners permit. For point reduction or insurance deduction you need Defensive Driving.

We also recommend bringing a lunch and/or beverage to class. Class will be given a 30 minute lunch break, but dining halls are closed on weekends and during the summer. No refrigeration is available. 

This class is mandated by New York State and each participant must be in class no later than 9:00am. The College's hours are 8:00am - 4:00pm on Saturdays.   Late arrivals are neither allowed in class, nor are eligible for a refund. 

The completion certificate given at the end of the course is valid for 1 year and must be presented to the DMV in order to schedule the road test. If the road test is not scheduled prior to the certificate expiration, the course must be repeated.
