Academic Background and Interests
I began my academic journey at SUNY Plattsburgh where I studied Math, Adolescence Education and Accounting. In 2007, I earned my teaching degree and New York State Teaching Certification in Mathematics. I joined the Clinton Community College family in 2009 teaching Math and working as a tutor part-time. By 2014, I became full time, working as the STEM Success and Retention Coordinator. My career allows me to do everything that I am passionate about. I teach for the math department, work one on one with students on a regular basis, develop workshops and curriculum, work with amazing colleagues and help students realize their potential. In 2020 I was awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Professional Service. Working at CCC has been one of the most rewarding experiences and I can't wait for what my next 10 years will bring.
Personal Interests and Hobbies
Spending quality time with my family and friends is what I love doing best. Making memories that will last a lifetime is what I enjoy the most. In 2018 my whole world changed when I became a Mom. My son, Dawson, is an energetic, smiley, huggable, and loving little man. Our family days consist mostly of building blocks, playing with cars, reading books, running outside, swimming and of course fun with food. Our life hasn't been the same since, but my husband and I wouldn't change it for the world.
I also love music, especially when I can dance to it! In 2013 I became a licensed Zumba instructor. Zumba is a fitness program that involves latin music with different styles of dance like salsa, cumbia, merengue, reggaeton and even hip-hop. I love all kinds of music and love writing choreography. I even choreographed a couple dances for my Wedding! After teaching Zumba for 4 years I have taken a break, but hope to get back to teaching again soon.
Keys to Success
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" ~ Nelson Mandela
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts" ~ Winston Churchill
Always remember that you are not alone in your educational journey, you have teachers, family and friends that will be there to support you and guide you. Your success is dependent on how creative, invested and passionate you are. Also, don't forget to be kind to others along the way, you never know who will hold keys to your future.
