Prison Education Program

Overview

Clinton Community College's Prison Education Program (PEP) provides incarcerated individuals with the opportunity to pursue a college degree and build a foundation for future success through higher education.

Launched at Altona Correctional Facility in fall 2024, the program offers students the opportunity to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts: Humanities and Social Sciences. Supported by SUNY's Office of Higher Education in Prison (OHEP), the program continues to grow as students work toward their educational goals.

In the fall of the 2026, the program was expanded to serve incarcerated students at Clinton Correctional Facility, creating additional opportunities for them to engage in academic study and earn a college degree.

Faculty

As of fall 2026, Clinton Community College has eleven full-time, part-time and emeritus faculty approved to teach in the Prison Education Program.

All faculty in the program go through a thorough New York State New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) background check and training process.
