CCC Foundation Receives New EMT Scholarship
Plattsburgh – members of Clinton Community College and Clinton Community College Foundation joined Devi Momot and Dawn Juneau on Thursday, February 2 in the Alumni Cottage to present to Clark Currier, brother of Momot and Juneau, with the Clark Currier EMT Scholarship which was created by members of his family and Twinstate Technologies. Members of Currier’s family, daughter, Joelle, step-father, Roger Sherman and Judi O’Brien, were in attendance via Zoom along with his niece, Alyssa Momot, and nephew, Ryan Collins. Also in attendance were Mike Zurlo, County Administrator, and Eric Day, County Emergency Services Director.
The scholarship, according to Momot and Juneau, is to provide assistance to those individuals seeking to work in the Emergency Medical Services community in our area. Clinton Community College has a very successful EMT/EMS program and the Foundation looks forward to assisting students who want to go into this much-needed service.
According to Currier’s bio, he has been active in the Saranac Fire Department for many years; first stint began in 1992 where he was a firefighter, EMT and Advanced EMT. He held many elected positions throughout his time before resigning at the end of 2000. After receiving complaints from his son, Ethan, about not being in the fire department anymore, Currier told him that when he turned 18, they would join together – and so they did – 14 years ago. He is now the acting department treasurer and goes on as many calls as he can as a black helmet for interior firefighting, swift water rescue and hazmat calls. Currier was also a member of the CCC Foundation Board of Directors for 10 years.
Currier thanks the support of his mom and dad, Dulcie (a local nurse in the 1950’s), with providing him support for his training as an EMT and his dad, Charles Currier, for sharing his technology expertise and bringing young people under his wings to share the new “tech”, when his parents founded Twinstate.
The scholarship, in the amount of $10,000, will be used to assist those students in the EMT/EMS programs at Clinton Community College succeed in this field.
