Honors Program Admissions

The Honors Program welcomes applications from incoming freshmen, transfer students, and current or returning students. Students who meet the Honors Program admission requirements will be extended an invitation to apply to become Honors scholars.

Application for Admission into the Honors Program

The Honors Program is competitive and limited to the first 40 Honors Scholars accepted each year. Applications are considered for:

  • high school students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 90 or higher or 3.5 or higher;
  • current and returning students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on 12 or more college credits;
  • transfer students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on 12 or more college credits; and
  • international students who meet the high school/transfer criteria, have a minimum TOEFL/IELTS score to place out of non-intermediate ESL coursework and a letter of recommendation from the ESL Coordinator.

Students who do not meet the criteria above, due to extenuating circumstances, may petition for admission into the Honors Program by: (1) completing an application and (2) submitting a personal statement, not to exceed two typed pages, that describes why they would make an exceptional Honors scholar.

Additional Admission Requirements

Students who have not taken formal coursework within the last two years will be able to apply to the Honors Program after completing 12 or more college credits. In addition, students who are placed in or need to complete remedial coursework will be able to apply to the Honors Program after remediation and 12 or more college credits have been completed.
