PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. —While being a para-athlete may limit you from playing in the National Basketball Association or playing National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I basketball, it does not mean you still can't play.
That is exactly what the North Country Special Olympics team has done for years. Recently, they got the chance to show off their skills against Clinton Community College, a basketball program that competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The para-athletes did not disappoint, putting on a show to take down the Cougars 87-69 on their own home floor.
It's the first time CCC has faced off against the North Country Special Olympic Hoopers. Clinton's head coach Neil Epstein was at the forefront of making this game happen and plans on continuing it as an ongoing tradition.
"We want to give them the full college experience," Epstein said. "They may not be as fortunate as some of our players to play at the college level, but we want to be able to give them that full college experience we offer here at Clinton Community College."
