Free Workforce Training Program Aims to Meet Local Manufacturing Demand
Job seekers interested in launching a career in manufacturing can gain hands-on skills at no cost through a weeklong Pre-Employment Training workshop offered by the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing (IAM) at Clinton Community College.
The free course, sponsored by the Clinton County IDA and the Adirondack Community Foundation, will run Monday, July 6, through Friday, July 10, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Participants will receive practical instruction in foundational manufacturing skills, including the use of hand and power tools, blueprint reading, basic wiring, crimping and cutting, and mechanical and electrical assembly.
In addition, a representative from UFirst Federal Credit Union will provide personal finance guidance, and ETS Workforce Solutions will offer training in soft skills such as workplace interaction and communication.
At the end of the course, local employers will present to the class about potential opportunities that exist at their companies.
“This training is all about opening doors for people looking to build new skills or launch a new career,” said Billy Jones, vice president of strategic initiatives and workforce development. “At the IAM, we’re giving people the tools and confidence they need to step into high-demand manufacturing careers in the North Country and succeed from day one.”
The program is designed to prepare individuals for entry-level positions in industrial and manufacturing settings.
Space is limited, and interested participants must register online.
