 The History of Hotel Champlain and Clinton Community College on Bluff Point

  • 1956 - Clinton County Board of Supervisors selects committee for community college feasibility study
  • 1957 - George Angell, President of Plattsburgh State University Teachers College appointed chair of committee
  • 1966 - Establishment of Clinton Community College approved by Governor Nelson Rockefeller, October 14th
  • 1967 - Board of supervisors, led by Bob Bruno, approves community college resolution by 9 to 6 vote
  • 1967 - Irving A. Rabin appointed first chair of college Board of Trustees
  • 1967 - John A. Mears appointed first President of CCC
  • 1969 - County legislators approve leasing former Bellarmine College on grounds of former Hotel Champlain
  • 1969 - College opens doors to 189 full-time students September 16th 
  • 1971 - Alfred B. Light appointed President of CCC
  • 1971 - College graduates first class; associates degrees awarded to 38 students
  • 1972 - Clinton County Legislature purchases hotel property for $1,045,000; college dedicated October 15th
  • 1977 - Two-year nursing program established at CCC; 32 nursing students enrolled
  • 1979 - Twenty-three nursing students receive degrees from CCC
  • 1986 - Jay L. Fennell appointed President of CCC
  • 1988 - LeRoy M. Douglas Sr. Library dedicated; named for former board of trustees chair
  • 1990 - Child Development Center dedicated; opens in McKinley Cottage
  • 1991 - William H. Forrence Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Center dedicated
  • 1997 - Expanded student union and cafeteria open in newly-constructed wing of main building
  • 1997 - CCC holds first December commencement
  • 1999 - Therese Bushner appointed President of CCC
  • 2000 - Former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton visits CCC
  • 2000 - Carol A. Eaton appointed President of CCC
  • 2000 - First CCC residence hall opens on former Plattsburgh Air Force Base
  • 2001 - Ronald B. Stafford Center for the Arts, Science and  Technology dedicated (cornerstone laid 1998)
  • 2002 - Second CCC residence hall and dining facility open on former Plattsburgh Air Force Base
  • 2005 - Maurice B. Hickey appointed President of CCC
  • 2006 - Clinton Community College celebrates 40th anniversary
  • 2007 - George Moore Academic and Administrative Building dedicated
  • 2009 - John E. Jablonski appointed President of CCC
  • 2009 - Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial commemoration at Clinton Community College
  • 2010 - Newly restored Alumni Cottage opens (formerly HC Grandview Cottage built in 1890)
  • 2010 - CCC women's soccer team wins national championship
  • 2011 - Centennial celebration of opening of second Hotel Champlain, July 1st
  • 2011 - Coolidge Student Support Services Center dedicated
  • 2017 - Ray M. DiPasquale appointed President of  CCC
  • 2017 - Newly constructed Institute for Advanced Manufacturing opens to students in fall semester
  • 2017 - Last winter commencement held on December 15, 2017
  • 2018 - Newly renovated Learning Commons opens in the Moore Building
  • 2019 - CCC Residence Halls sold
  • 2019 - Small Business Development Center and CITEC move into Pines Cottage
  • 2019 - Eagle's Nest Food Pantry and Dress for Success Closet opened for student use
  • 2019 - $10.6 million renovation began on the Moore building; Clinton 2021 will be completed in fall 2021
